Mahavir Jayanti, one of the most significant festivals of Jains, was celebrated today at Classic Gardens here. Members of the Jain community held special programs at Jain Mandir at M.G. Road in the morning. They also held 3-km rally Bhavya Julus group singing, chanting hymns for world peace marked the special features of the celebration of the jayanthi of Lord Mahavir, the founder of Jainism. Men, women and children took part in the procession with an elegantly decorated chariot with an image of Lord Mahavir that passed through important thoroughfares in the town. Youth and elders shouted slogans “Live and Let Live”, “Save Girl Child”, “Stop Killing of Girl Child”. The procession passed through Ranigunj, Paradise and concluded at Classic Garden for the celebrations. Jain Monks and Gurus led the procession.
The Mahavir Jayanthi, 2611th birth anniversary of Lord Mahavir, the 24th and the last Tirthankara, Vardhman Mahavir – the founder of Jainism was inaugurated by Ranjana Devi Goyal, Special Guest and GHMC Corporator from Ganshibazar in city, Sajjan Gandhi, Sheel Kumar both Chief Convenors of the celebrations, Sunil Kumar Bohra, Treasurer, Kishore Kumar Mutha Treasurer, Uttamchand Sethiya, President of Sri Jain Seva Sangh, the apex body of over 2.5 lakh Jains for all sub-sects in the city. Nearly, 25000 Jains congragated at Classic Garden for the Celebrations. Jain Sadhus, Sadhvis, Jain Acharyas, Saints and VIPs were among others graced Mahavir Jayanthi Celebrations today at Classic Gardens, Secunderabad. The celebrations was inaugurated by lighting the lamp by Ranjana Devi Goya, Corporator and Uttamchand Sethia, President.
Sajjan Raj, Convenor of the Mahavir Jayanthi Celebrations said that though the government declared Jains as Minorities in the State, they are yet to get the privileges on par with other minority communities.
Therapankthi Mahila Mandal members held placards highlighting their progam Kanya Suraksha Yojana. The placards read “Save Girl Child”, “1000 Men and only 800 women”, “No Female, No Family”. Shri Pashwanath Jain Mandal, Rasoolpura Secunderabad promoted “Ahimsa Paramo Dharma”. They sported their cars with this message and distributed phamplets.
Several organisations like NTR Memorial Trust, www.jainblood.in, Lions Club of Secunderabad Twincities and Govind Shanti Binjrajka Blood Bank, St. Theresa’s Hospital, Blook Bank; Rakth Rakshak of JCI-Hyderabad Deccan and so on organised blood donation camp. Ajit Parshwa Yuva Sangh organised Bone Mineral Density Camp and Bone Mineral Density Test. KIMS hospitals under the aegis of Mahavir International organised a free Health Checkup Camp. They provided free ECG, Sugar, B.P and Weight Check up.
Shirdi Vardhaman Jain Yuva Parishad, Shri Punjabi Jain Sabha, Sri Kuchera Jain Mahasabha and many organizations provided free water and juices at the venue. (NSS)
