Tehran, August 15: Dr. Amir Sanjari, an Iranian born British Nuclear Physicist, has refused food for the past 67 days while in US custody, his mother tells Press TV.
Claiming civil rights violations, Sanjari is on a hunger strike in the Sacramento County jail. He has been jailed on a warrant that has stemmed from his divorce case.
“He wanted to prove that the warrant issued on his case was unjust. In a country that claims every one has freedom of speech, he said he also had the right to speak out his case, he said he should not keep quiet, fearing not to be heard because of being a foreigner,” Sanjari’s mother told Press TV on Friday.
She said his son was dismissed from his job in the US, (he was a university professor) and he was banned from leaving the country, moreover, he was prohibited from visiting his children.
During the course of his 17-year marriage, Sanjari, a UK Citizen was invited to the United States to Stony Brook University, New York for a research position.
“He just wants his case to be referred to the federal court, for he has seen injustice and corruption in warrants issued by Indiana state judges,” Sanjari’s mother noted.
Earlier in August, ‘Fathers 4 Justice’ group in Sacramento filed a writ of habeas corpus on Sanjari’s behalf in a Federal court. The 51-year-old father is still in a US prison without legal representation.
