Jailed former Jharkhand minister taken to hospital

Ranchi, August 22: Former Jharkhand minister Enos Ekka, who is in judicial custody, was Saturday taken to hospital after he complained of chest pain and difficulty in breathing, officials said.
Ekka was taken from Ranchi jail to the Rajendra Institute of Medical Science (RIMS) here Saturday afternoon and admitted to the ICU. An ECG and other tests were conducted on him and doctors are analysing the reports.

Ekka was interrogated by vigilance sleuths Thursday and Friday after he was taken on remand with permission of the vigilance court. According to sources in the department, Ekka could not “satisfactorily” reply to the questions posed to him.

Ekka and Harinarayan Rai, another former minister, surrendered in court Aug 17 after evading arrest for more then a month-and-a-half after a vigilance court issued non bailable arrest warrants against them June 27. Both were sent to judicial custody.

The vigilance sleuths say that the department found assets worth Rs.3.73 crore with Ekka and Rs 1.16 crore assets with Rai.

In November, the vigilance department had filed a first information report against them, charging them with embezzling public funds, amassing wealth illegally and conspiracy.
