M Jaishanker Serial rapist and killer, had paid a hefty bribe to a jail official of Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara who provided him with a duplicate key to his prison cell and gave him the opportunity to ranaway from the Central Prison on the night of August 31, 2013, before being caught six days later.
Jaishanker was in four-day police custody till Wednesday. During an interrogation with him, the identity of the official who abeted him in the daring escape had revealed , said a senior police officer.
The iniquitous prisoner was produced before the jurisdictional magistrate on Wednesday, who denied to extend his police custody by two days as sought by the prosecution. He was then sent to jail in the evening.” Adequate security measures had been put in place in the wake of Jaishanker’s previous jailbreak,insiste a senior prison officer.
The investigation might not be resolved until we know how Jaishanker got the money to pay the bribe, how it was smuggled into the prison and who cut-off power supply to the barricade that helped the man escape, said the senior police officer, who is overseeing the investigation into Jaishanker’s escape.
Shanta Kumar, ACP (Madiwala sub-division), who is the investigating officer, said that he would submit the report by next week to the police top brass, but refused to divulge details of the probe.
