Pre-poll surveys conducted by different TV channels and other organizations suggest that the YSR Congress led by Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy would be sweeping the ensuing by polls which would be held on June 12 to 18 Assembly and one Lok Sabha seats.
According to these surveys, the YSRC is poised to get a minimum of 13 and a maximum of 16 Assembly seats.
A Telugu TV channel has conducted a pre-poll survey from May 1 to 10 in all the constituencies and said Jagan’s party would get 14 of the 18 seats while the TDP would get 2, Congress and TRS one each. The channel said that the TDP was likely to win Payakaraopet and Prattipadu constituencies and the Congress in Narsapuram in the Seemandhra region. The channel said that TRS was most likely to win the Parakala seat in Telangana.
It is learnt that some TV channels are making arrangements for conducting one or two more rounds of surveys in view of the changed circumstances and to know if there was any change in the people’s mood as Jagan received court summons and some more of his associates were sent to jail.
Observers feel that sympathy for Jagan might increase if he was arrested before the by-polls. Poll results would be further favorable to Jagan in case he was arrested, say these observers.
However, Congress leaders are dismissing these survey reports. They are stating that people have started understanding corrupt practices of Jagan and this would result in an adverse situation to him. However, YSRC leaders are exude confidence of total win and are stating that both Congress and TDP would lose their deposits.
It is being said that while the YSRC was likely to poll 40 per cent of the votes, Congress would get 32 and TDP 38 percent, say initial estimates. In Parakala, reports say that TRS and BJP would share first and second places while Congress, YSRC and TDP would get 12 to 18 per cent of votes. (NSS)
