Kadapa, August 25: Former minster Konda Surekha was in tears at the YS Rajasekhara Reddy’s samadhi at Idupulapaya today, recalling her association with the late leader.
Keeping the ‘rakhi’ at the samadhi and seeking his blessings, Surekha said she never imagined that a day would come when she would not be able to tie a rakhi on Rajasekhara Reddy’s wrist.
After offering prayers at the samadhi, Surekha’s daughter tied a rakhi to Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy and sought his blessings.
Later addressing mediapersons at the R&B Guest House, Surekha said it was due to the popularity of Rajasekhara Reddy that the Congress had formed the government in the state. It was Rajasekhara Reddy’s development and welfare schemes that paved the way for the Congress to form the government for the second consecutive time. Forgetting it, some leaders were criticising him which only showed their ignorance, she said.
Wondering why some leaders were making an issue of Jagan’s ‘Odarpu Yatra’, when there were several others who took out such yatras in one name or the other, Surekha said it was only those who were jealous of Rajasekhara Reddy and his popularity were trying to tarnish his image.
Asked which was more important to her _ Telangana or Jagan _ Surekha answered ‘Jagan’, but was quick to add that affection was quite different form regionalism.
She expressed confidence that Jagan’s Odarpu Yatra would be a success in Telangana and the high command would recognise Jagan’s worth soon.
