Jagan has no right to protest Krishna award: TDP

Hyderabad, January 10: The Telugu Desam Party has dubbed rebel leader Y S Jaganmohan Reddy’s one-day fast in New Delhi tomorrow a “school excursion trip” and said he had no right to fight on the Krishna river water issue.

“Your late father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy’s follies have become a curse for Andhra Pradesh as it has been deprived of its rightful share of Krishna water. Without realising that, you are going to sit on a deeksha (hunger-strike for river water) in New Delhi along with your drama troupe. Your Delhi trip is more like a school excursion and nothing else. People of the state will never trust you,” TDP spokesman Byreddy Rajasekhara Reddy said here today.

Addressing a press conference in the TDP headquarters, Byreddy pointed out that the Congress government under Y S Rajasekhara Reddy failed to appoint competent lawyers to argue the state’s case effectively before the Justice Brijesh Kumar Tribunal. As a result, AP was deprived of its due share of Krishna waters.

“The TDP president N Chandrababu Naidu wrote a letter to then Chief Minister YSR way back in 2006 on the impending disaster as the government did not engage competent lawyers or present concrete material evidence to support the state’s case. Even Congress leaders like late P Janardhana Reddy had warned of the consequences but the YSR government remained indifferent,” Byreddy recalled.

“Ignorant of this, Jagan is taking up the agitation in New Delhi. I challenge him to come for an open debate on the issue at the place of his choice,” the TDP spokesman said.

Former Congress leader Jagan Reddy along with his many followers would hold one-day fast at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on Tuesday to protest against Krishna water dispute tribunal’s verdict and highlight Andhra farmers’ plight who have suffered heavily due to cyclones and rains.
