Hyderabad, January 06: Former Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy will hire a special train to take people to Delhi for his day-long hunger strike at Jantar Mantar on January 11.
The special train will leave Secunderabad on the evening of Jan 9. Jagan Mohan Reddy will also travel by the same train along with 1,400 to 1800 people, including farmers.
According to former APIIC chairman Ambati Rambabu, the hunger strike is not meant to be a demonstration of Jagan Mohan Reddy’s strength but was aimed only at drawing the attention of the Centre on the need for evolving a comprehensive policy on allocation of river waters among the states.
Though the protest will also draw the attention of the Centre to the injustice meted out by the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal in allocation of Krishna waters, it is mainly intended to bring about a fundamental change in the river water distribution policy of the Centre.
To a question, Rambabu said the YSR government had given in writing to the Brijesh Kumar Tribunal that the state would not stake any claim for enhancement of assured waters because if such a guarantee was not given there was a possibility of the Centre declaring all the Jalayagnam projects as illegal.
Soon after YSR became the chief minister, several projects were taken up on the Krishna river. This had to be done because his predecessor N Chandrababu Naidu had ignored the pressing need for harnessing the river waters for agriculture purpose, he said.
