Jagan followers stage protest in Nellore

Nellore, October 18: Trouble continued in Nellore town on Saturday when followers of Kadapa MP YS Jaganmohan Reddy staged a demonstration protesting the action of local authorities in not allowing installation of a statue of late chief minister YS Rajasekhara Reddy.

As part of Jagan’s ongoing Odarpu Yatra in the district, his men planned to have a statue of YSR unveiled in Fishermen’s Colony in the centre of the town.

They commenced work without obtaining the requisite permission forcing the civic officials to demolish the pedestal a couple of days ago.

The incident sparked off a fresh war of words between the groups owing allegiance to MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy and minister Anam Ramnarayan Reddy the former sailing with Jagan and the latter leading the other camp. The MP’s supporters alleged that the installation of the statue was not being allowed only at the instance of the minister.

Officials, on their part, maintained that the demolition was done as the construction was taken up without getting permission from either the Roads and Buildings department or the municipal corporation.
