YSR Congress chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy who was grilled by the CBI for seven hours on Friday on the Vanpic deal, was not arrested by the agency as expected, on the first day of his interrogation at the Dil Kusha guest house, the makeshift office of the agency.

Jagan who went in at 10-30 am, came out at around 06-30 pm, looking tired. He told the waiting media that CBI has asked him to come back for questioning once again on Saturday. Jagan has said that he had answered every question the agency has asked.

Soon after coming out, Jagan has left for his Lotus Pond residence. It became clear that Jagan would not be arrested, when police was asked by CBI to clear the way from Dil Kusha to Jagan’s residence in the evening.

It is learnt that Jagan was questioned by the CBI Joint Director Lakshmi Narayana himself. He was assisted by two more officers of the agency.

It is learnt that Jagan was initially questioned alone and he was later questioned in the presence of the arrested former excise minister Mopidevi Venkata Ramana, Nimmagadda Prasad, promoter of Vanpic and Brahmananda Reddy, IRS officer.

Jagan is likely to appear before the CBI once again at 10-30 am on Saturday. It is learnt that Jagan has explained to the CBI authorities that he had a busy election campaign to attend to and urged them to complete the interrogation even by extending it by few hours on Friday itself. CBI has turned down the request and asked him to appear once again on Saturday.

When he entered the Dil Kusha guest house, Jagan was greeted by Lakshmi Narayana himself. Jagan has inturn greeted the CBI Jt. Director with folded hands. Lakshmi Narayana who asked Jagan if he was comfortable, has offered him a glass of water and asked him if he cared for a cup of tea. Jagan has politely said no to the offer and asked the officers to begin interrogation.

During lunch adjournment, while the CBI authorities had ordered lunch for all concerned, Jagan has received his lunch from his house. CBI sleuths have allowed the lunch boxes in, after thoroughly checking them. YSR Congress leaders have heaved a sigh of relief when Jagan was not arrested. They however suspect that CBI might arrest him on Saturday. Mopidevi was also not arrested on the first day of interrogation as it ended late in the evening. But when he came the next day, CBI announced his arrest after questioning him for two hours.
