Hyderabad, June 07: Kadapa MP YS Jagan Mohan Reddy sent out conflicting signals on Sunday as regards his response to the high command’s directive to him not to resume his Odarpu Yatra in Srikakulam from June 8.
“Who said my Odarpu Yatra has been deferred?” Jagan Mohan Reddy snapped at reporters today in Anantapur when they sought to know if he had put off his plans to resume the yatra. But sources indicated that deferment of the yatra, by a week, is exactly what he is planning.
But it was not clear whether he would go ahead with the postponed date, June 14, even if no clearance is received from the Congress high command. June 14 happens to be the exact day Jagan’s father Y S Rajasekhara Reddy finished his famed padayatra in Srikakulam in 2003.
According to party sources, the young MP has been discussing the pros and cons of resuming the yatra at a time when there has been silence from the high command, both to his urgency to hit the road again and to the letter written by his mother Vijayalaxmi to Congress president Sonia Gandhi requesting the same thing.
The MP’s response to the high command has been been a mixture of defiance and compliance.
Earlier in the day, Jagan, who was in Anantapur on Sunday to attend a wedding, chose not to elaborate further on his firm refusal to entertain any deferment and left the venue pushing aside reporters.
Jagan’s supporters have been hoping that the party might clear his yatra since the next leg would be in north coastal Andhra, far away from Telangana.
