Jagan asks for opportunity to speak to the Media

The YSR Congress Chief Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy has filed a writ petition in the high court asking for an opportunity to speak to the media in view of the ongoing by-elections.

He sought an opportunity to have his voice heard by the people, through the print and electronic media. He has asked the court to provide him his ‘Right to Express’, as enshrined in the article 19 (1) of the constitution.

He has added the jails DG, IG and DIG as respondents in the petition in which he has sought permission to speak to the media as an under-trial.

It may be mentioned here that Jagan was arrested by the CBI in connection with the disproportionate assets case on May 27 after questioning him for three days. He was produced in the CBI court on the next day and was remanded to judicial custody till June 11. Jagan’s attempts to get bail or at least an interim bail had failed as both the CBI court and high court have rejected his petitions. As he was unable to campaign for his party, as by-polls would be held on June 12, Jagan’s mother and honorary president of YSR Congress Y S Vijayamma and his sister Sharmila started campaigning for the party candidates.
