YSR Congress Party president Y S Jaganmohan Reddy today appealed to people of the State to join his party-sponsored dharnas at all mandal headquarters to protest against the Chandrababu Naidu government’s failure to fulfill his election promise of crop and DWCRA loan waiver.
Speaking to mediapersons here on Tuesday, Jagan announced protest programs for three months. Jagan said he would go on hunger strike for two days on January 6 and 7 in the Godavari districts if the government failed to waive the loans.
As part of the program, on December 5, protests would be organised at all district Collectorates.
Chandrababu Naidu had assured that he would put his first signature on the file pertaining to the crop loan waiver. He had also assured to waive SHG loans, he recalled. Jagan also pointed out that the farmers did not repay their loans in the belief that Chandrababu Naidu government would write off their loans. Now, the farmers are forced to pay Rs 28,000 crore towards penalty for non-payment and interest for this year, he said, adding that the TDP government allocated only Rs 5,000 crore this year for loan waiver.
The cyclone-hit farmers also did not get insurance cover as they could not re-pay loans believing that Chandrababu Naidu would waive off the loans. He also pointed out some 43.11 lakh pensioners were waiting for the pensions for over the past six months. (NSS)
