Karnataka Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar, who heads the BJP government in the state, has assured the students from the North-East that the whole Karnataka was with them and there was nothing to worry about. He told the North-Eastern community that there is no need for them to leave the state.
Rumours are rife regarding the aftershocks of the ethnic violence that has hit Assam hard in the last one month in which more than 80 people lost their lives.
The Chief Minister reiterated that the reports regarding attacks are baseless and that the state is providing them with adequate security. He claimed that the government has appointed a nodal officer to look into the matter and has set up helpline numbers.
But despite Chief Minister and Centre’s effort to alleviate fear, a large number of North-Eastern community is heading home which is indicated by huge rush in trains which compelled the railway authorities to run special trains for Guwahati.
