Jaffer Sharief wants judicial probe into Wakf Scam

Former Union Minister and Senior Congress Leader C K Jaffer Sharief today demanded judicial inquiry into allegations of his involvement in encroachment of wakf property in Karnataka. Wakf Commission Chairman Anwar Manpady, in a report, had alleged more than Rs two lakh crore worth Wakf property had been encroached upon by VIPs, politicians, MNCs and educational institutions. Mr Sharief said the report appeared to be not on detailed enquiry and true facts. ‘It appears to be politically motivated and to tarnish the image of senior leaders of minority community and more particularly those who are in the Congress, like me.

‘The report is against to the principles of natural justice since the report is unilateral one prepared without giving any opportunity to the concerned to be heard,’ he said. Addressing a press conference here, he said the BJP Government, which claimed to be showing keen interest in the welfare of the minority community, should institute judicial enquiry by a sitting Supreme Court Judge into the alleged encroachments and illegal transactions of Wakf properties in the state.
