Jada never wanted to star in ‘Ali’

Washington: Hollywood actress Jada Pinkett Smith initially thought of not joining the movie ‘Ali’, which was based on the life of world-famous boxer Muhammad Ali.

‘The Girls Trip’ star played the role of Ali’s first wife Sonji Roi on screen along with her real-life husband Will Smith, who played the title character in the movie.

According to Entertainment Weekly, she didn’t want to audition for the role as she didn’t want to act with her husband in the film since they were a couple off-screen.

Jada felt that people see Will and Jada in the film and not Ali and Sonji as the duo are a real-life couple, she told Entertainment Weekly.

‘Ali’ focuses on the most important ten years in the life of the boxer Muhammad Ali (Will Smith) from 1964 to 1974.

The film featured his achievement as the heavyweight title by defeating Sonny Liston, his conversion to Islam, the criticism he received for not joining the Vietnam War, and also the brief period of banishment from boxing.

It also captures his return to fight with Joe Frazier in 1971, and finally reclaiming the title from George Foreman in 1974.
