JAC takes strong stand on Telangana issue

Hyderabad, January 27: Pro Telangana Joint Action Committee (JAC) Convenor M Kodandaram today made it clear that all elected representatives from the region should press for acceptance of their resignations if the Centre did not come out with a clear-cut announcement on formation of Telangana state.

Addressing the members of the JAC on a relay fast for the 12th day today, Prof Kondandaram said there was no change in the stand taken by the JAC with major political parties that all should quit by January 28.

”We will ensure that those who have resigned will win again as and when fresh elections are held,” he said in a bid to assure the elected representatives, including MPs, MLAs and MLCs.

In the event of the elected representatives not adhering to the collective decision of the JAC, Telangana people would decide on their political future, he warned.

Meanwhile, senior Congress legislators K Jana Reddy and R Damodar Reddy left for New Delhi to persuade the party high command to take an early decision on the Telangana issue. ”We will come back with good news,” Mr Damodar Reddy told reporters before leaving for national capital.

The Congress high comand had advised the party elected represenatives not to come to Delhi as it would further complicate the issue.

The party Central ledership had stressed on maintanence of normalcy and peace in the State and create a conducive atmosphere for the Centre to take a decision on the vexed issue and any move to press for resignation would only aggravate the problem.

As many as 28 of of 50 Congress legislators had submitted their resignation in the wake of the Centre’s December 23 announcement.
