JAC backs Vidyarthi Garjana

Hyderabad, January 02: The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of all political parties, which met here today, expressed solidarity with the proposed `Chalo Hyderbad’ rally of students, Vidyarthi Garjana, on January 3 and urged the State Government to grant permission for it.

The meeting, attended by leaders of the TRS, TDP and BJP, decided to send a delegation to the chief minister tomorrow to request him for permission for the rally. The Congress representatives, however, were conspicuous by their absence.

According to JAC convener K Kodanda Ram, the meeting also urged the State Government to withdraw cases registered against students in connection with the agitation for Telangana statehood as promised by Union Home Minister P Chidambaram.

Significantly, the meeting did not discuss the resignations of the Telangana ministers from Rosaiah’s Cabinet and their subsequent decision to withdraw them barring Information Technology Minister K Venkata Reddy.

The meeting reportedly did not take up the issue of the move of Rosaiah to take action against him for his comments that he was Andhrabiased.

According to sources, the JAC did not take up these issues purposefully since the Congress had been showing signs of breaking away from the JAC. The very fact that the Congress representatives did not attend the meeting lent credence to this belief.

Apart from this, some Congress biggies issued statements that the party would be misunderstood by people if it allied with the Opposition parties regardless of the issue they are fighting for.

The JAC members were reportedly angry with the ministers for withdrawing their resignations which they felt amounted to ditching the movement for separate Telangana state. Sensing the unfriendly atmosphere prevailing in the JAC, the Congress appears to be distancing itself from the coalition.
