Kolkata: Before boarding her flight to New Delhi to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday, ran into Modi’s wife, Jashodaben at the Kolkata airport. Both the ladies exchanged greetings.
According to sources, Jashodaben was leaving the city after a two-day visit to Dhanbad to offer puja at Kalyaneswari temple at Asansol in Paschim Barddhaman district of West Bengal, which is around 68 kilometres from Dhanbad.
As reported by the Telegraph India, Mamata, who had turned Jashodaben’s “plight” of being “abandoned” by her husband into a poll plank during the general election campaign, spoke to her for a couple of minutes. She is said to have gifted a saree to Modi’s wife.
Mamata Banerjee will be meeting the prime minister on Wednesday in New Delhi. She will be discussing various issues like funds that are due to the state.
Mamata is quoted to have said, “I go to New Delhi very rarely. This is a routine work. This time I am going to talk about funds that are due to West Bengal. I will also highlight issues like change of West Bengal’s name.”
