Srinagar, August 30: The Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to introduce a special scheme for the treatment and welfare of children with mental disabilities, considering the rise in such infirmities.
“Government is contemplating to implement ‘special treatment for special children (STSC)’ scheme shortly,” Minister for Social Welfare, Sakina Itoo, said after inaugurating a screening camp here today.
The camp was organised by Special Olympic Bharat (SOB) and others.
The minister said during the past decade the number of persons with mental disabilities has increased. “It is the need of the hour to train the parents of disabled children to nurture them in a better way,” she said.
SOB state president, Ashwani Jojra, said 206 special athletes were screened at the camp.
