J-K cross voting: BJP says nobody above party discipline

Srinagar, April 26: Maintaining that nobody is above party discipline, the BJP today said that action taken by the high command on the issue of cross voting should be accepted by everyone.

“The action taken by the high command over the issue has to be accepted by everyone in the party and any comment in this regard amounts to indiscipline,” BJP Mahila Morcha National President Smriti Irani said at a function in Sunderbandi belt of Rajouri district, 90 kms from here, this evening.

The BJP has suspended seven out of its 11 MLAs in J-K for cross-voting in favour of the Congress-NC candidate in legislative council election on April 13.

However, the suspended MLAs revolted against the party high command and withdrew their resignations after meeting J&K Assembly Speaker Mohmmad Akbar Lone.

Irani said the BJP does not believe in dynastic rule. “Any party worker, who is sincere and dedicated, can rise to occupy the chair of partys national president,” she said.

Raising the issue of black money stashed in banks abroad, Irani accused the UPA government of a cover up, saying it was doing nothing to recover it.

“There is black money of about Rs five lakh thousand crore still lying in the foreign banks but the government is providing cover up,” she said at the day-long women convention.

Irani hit out at the government over the 2G spectrum, CWG and Adarsh Housing Society scam and alleged that it had failed to check corruption and price rise.

The BJP leader also voiced concern on the dismal child sex ratio. “The recent decrease in the sex ratio projected in the 2011 census report blamed women for their ignorance and on female foeticide which has become a curse for society and should be fought against,” she said and stressed on quality education for women so that they can shed off their bias and for their empowerment.
