Uri: Yet another incident of ceasefire violation by Pakistani forces occurred on Monday along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kamalkote sector of Baramullah district’s Uri.
This comes in the backdrop of peace talks by several high-ranked Pakistan officials, including newly elected Prime Minister Imran Khan, while offering condolences over the passing away of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
During his visit to India, Pakistan’s interim Minister of Law and Information Syed Ali Zafar took special note of the situation in Kashmir and hoped that India and Pakistan will be able to resolve all issues between them.
Also, Imran Khan said in a statement that the best way to honour “towering leader” Vajpayee is by establishing peace between India and Pakistan.
However, incidents of ceasefire violations have continuously been on the rise.
On Friday, Pakistan violated the ceasefire protocol in Poonch sector’s Chakan da Bagh.
This came a few days after two Pakistani soldiers were gunned down by the Indian Army in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district after another violation of the ceasefire along the LoC.
Minister of State in the Defence Ministry, Subhash Bhamre, said in a statement that there were 152 cases of ceasefire violations in 2015, which climbed to 228 and 860 in 2016 and 2017 respectively.
Bhamre further stated that 942 cases of ceasefire violations had already been reported till July 23 2018.
