Srinagar, August 05: The Army on Wednesday killed seven militants during gunbattles to prevent infiltration bids in five locations across Jammu and Kashmir.
Three of these encounters were on in Kupwara and one in the Pirpanjal range even as this report was being filed.
In Kupwara, encounters were on in Karen, Farkiyan Gali and Tangdhar. Five militants had so far been killed in this region.
Lt Col J.S. Brar, PRO of the Army in Srinagar, said it was difficult to estimate how many militants were holed in the three areas because of dense forests.
Fighting in Titam Gali in the Pirpanjal range left one militant dead.
The encounter in Marmat Doda was over. A section commander of the Hizbul Mujahideen was killed in this operation. Lt Col. Diplab Nath, the defence spokesperson in Jammu, said the militant had been active since 1995.
A large quantity of arms and ammunition was seized from the militants killed.
