Mumbai: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday sought more time to file the supplementary chargesheet against gangster Chhota Rajan in connection with the murder case of journalist Jyotirmoy Dey.
The CBI sought more time as some procedural permissions are needed as prosecution sanction against Rajan. The court has given August 5 as the final date for filing the chargesheet.
If the investigative agency fails to file the chargesheet on that date, the court will frame charges against Rajan with already available materials against him.
But most importantly, the CBI mentioned in the court that some evidences have been found during the investigation.
Dey, a veteran crime reporter, was shot dead near his residence at Hiranandani Gardens in Powai on June 11, 2011, by motorcycle-borne shooters allegedly at Rajan’s command.
Four persons on two bikes fired at Dey, who was also riding a bike. After the attack, he was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was declared brought dead.
Rajan was allegedly upset with two articles written by Dey and, therefore, ordered his killing. (ANI)
