J and K in the grip of biting cold

Srinagar, December 26: Jammu and Kashmir remained in the grip of biting cold today as the night temperatures showed a downward trend in most parts of the valley.

With the minimum temperature dipping to minus 19.4 degrees C in Leh and minus 14.0 degrees C in Kargil, the cold desert of Ladakh was reeling under severe cold wave, the Met office said.

Even the day temperature registered a steep fall as it dipped to minus 5.8 degrees C in Kargil and minus 2.0 degrees C in Leh.

Srinagar, the summer capital of the state, recorded a low of minus 4.4 degrees celsius. The city had recorded minus 4.9 degrees Celsius yesterday.

Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 5.8 degrees C followed by Kupwara (minus 5.3), Qazigund (minus 4.0) and Kokernag (minus 2.8 degrees C).
