There are about 20 criminal cases pending against 8 leaders of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM).
Among the `booked’ legislators, MIM’s floor leader, Akbaruddin Owaisi, tops the list with nine cases registered against him, including the latest case registered by Chandrayangutta police for assaulting a BJP activist and hate speeches and attacked on Congress leader on Tuesday. After Owaisi, MLA Pasha Qadri leads with seven pending cases against him. However, till date, most of their cases are either pending for trial or pending investigation.
To the above, now there are fresh cases against the AIMIM leaders and party workers after they tried to spread the voilance on Tuesday across the Old City.
The MIM leader Asaduddin owaisi attacked the various party leaders including Deputy Chief Minister Mohammad Mahmood Ali’s son Azam Ali and senior Congress leaders Uttam Kumar Reddy, Mohammed Ali Shabbir, and Amjad Ullah Khan Khaled.
The Owaisi brothers and others were booked for unlawful assembly, voluntarily causing hurt, wrongful restraint, criminal intimidation and other charges.
A separate case against another MIM leader, Balala was booked on a complaint by MBT leader Amjadullah Khan Khalid, who was also injured in an attack by Balala.
MLA Ahmed Balala, was arrested on Tuesday for alleged attack on Azam Ali, son of Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mahmood Ali, who however granted bail on Wednesday.
Director General of Police and Hyderabad Commissioner of Police Mahender Reddy reviewed the cases booked against MIM leaders in connection with various incidents of violence. “Two teams were working to conduct the investigation and gather evidence”, he said.
To the surprised the cases are pending from several years. Apart from a case in which the Crime Investigation Department has been probing against Akbaruddin for his alleged hate speeches, the state government was yet to give per mission to prosecute the cases.
“In 2014, the Supreme Court had given a clear direction that once the court takes cognisance of cases concerning MPs or MLAs after police file a chargesheet, the trial court should dispose it in a year. However, this is not happening,” Forum for Good Governance secretary M Padmanabha Reddy told TOI.
