Italian police have confiscated counterfeit US state bonds worth $6 trillion, media reports said Friday.
The operation was sanctioned by the prosecutor’s office of the southern Italian city of Potenza and was the result of an investigation initiated a year ago by the Potenza prosecutor and Swiss authorities.
The false securities supposedly issued by the US Fed in 1934 were confiscated in a Swiss company based in Zurich in January but it became known only recently.
The police also detained eight people on suspicion of creating a company for international financial fraud.
