Itlay, April 12: An Italian regional train has derailed today, leaving at least six dead and many seriously hurt, the ANSA news agency reported.
Rescuers said around 20 were injured, many seriously, in the accident at around 7:00am GMT (5pm AEST) in the gorge between the Italian towns of Laces and Castelbello. A landslide may have been the cause.
Police have not ruled out the possibility of more fatalities, as rescuers continued to pull people from the wrecked carriages.
Surrounding streets were closed to allow ambulances and emergency services to reach the scene.
The line only began running in 2005 and is one of the most modern that runs in the Alto Adige region.
