It is imperative to create awareness regarding the role of woman in the society because until and unless the society does not realise the status of women, crime against women could not be prevented. These views were expressed by Mrs Shabana Azmi during an exclusive talk with Siasat. She said that it was very unfortunate that woman herself felt sad on the birth of a girl child. The basic reason for this is that fairer sex is considered weaker compared to men. While the fact is the woman has proved that she can walk shoulder to shoulder with men. Women in this country have proved their mettle and are holding top positions. Women have reached the posts of president and prime minister. Presently a woman is holding the post of a governor.
Mrs. Azmi felt that change in the mindset and economic revolution are inevitable to reduce inequality. She observed that until and unless girls were not provided equal opportunities in offices, education, jobs and other places the change could not be felt.
Commenting upon the political situation of the country she hoped that political disputes could not deflect the mind of common man as common man is secular even today. She claimed that politics of religious hatred would not last long.
She advised girls and women to use their strength and abilities for the formation of a better society and progress of women.
