A group of robbers in the guise of Income Tax sleuths and policemen today allegedly ‘raided’ the residence of a prominent businessman and made away with huge amount of cash, gold and diamond jewellery.
As per the family members, the gang members entered the Sarabha Nagar residence of Rakesh Kumar, the owner of a chain of sweet-shops in Punjab, showing fake identity cards and started searching.
Soon after, they took away sim cards of all the mobile phones in the house and gathered a huge amount of cash, gold and diamond jewellery.
The group also raided the residences of Rakesh’s sister and father-in-law situated in Aggar Nagar Colony here and collected valuables from there.
The operation went on till late in the evening after which the group fled with the booty.
When Rakesh and others came to know that they were robbers and not officers of the Income Tax department, they informed the police.
Police Commissioner Pramod Ban said a case has been registered against unidentified robbers. Further investigations are on into the case, he added.
