It is for KP to clarify truth on ceasefire offer: Karunanidhi

Chennai, August 23: Tamil Nadu Chief Minister and DMK president M Karunanidhi today said it was for LTTE International spokesman Kumaran Pathmanathan to clarify the truth about his interview on the proposed ceasefire between LTTE and Sri Lankan Army after a CPI(M) MLA denied having leaked it to MDMK General Secretary Vaiko.

He was replying to a question whether he read the denial issued by CPI(M) Legislator K Mahendran that LTTE Political Commissar B Nadesan had informed him of the proposed ceasefire and that he had leaked it to Mr Vaiko, who had allegedly thwarted it.

Mr Pathmanathan in an interview to a Sri Lankan Daily claimed that he had asked Mr Nadesan not to share the proposed ceasefire offer with either Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P Nedumaran or Mr Vaiko. But Mr Nadesan had informed about it to Mr Mahendran, who in turn had leaked it to Mr Vaiko.

Mr Pathmanathan claimed that Mr Vaiko had thwarted it to prevent DMK and Congress from taking credit for a ceasefire ahead of the 2009 Lok Sabha polls in Tamil Nadu.

Mr Karunanidhi said he read the denial issued by Mr Mahendran stating that there was no truth in the interview given by Pathmanathan, who is also called KP.

”It was for KP, an important leader of the LTTE, to clarify the truth’, the Chief Minister said.
