IT guys make a difference to society

Hyderabad, January 11: When you think of IT professionals, you probably get the idea of a swish set of youngsters with love for a fine life and swanky cars. But volunteers of Youth for Seva have a completely different outlook. This bunch of youngsters mostly from various IT companies are setting an example by lending a helping hand to orphans and underprivileged people.

Instituted a year back, YFS with more than 200 volunteers spanning across 32 companies and two colleges has adopted four government schools and two orphanages. They also undertake health camps and environmental awareness campaigns.

YFS celebrated its first anniversary on Sunday with a show involving performances by children trained by them. The talented kids performed various patriotic plays and cultural dances. Chief guest at the event, Kamal Narang, managing director, Berkadia Commercial Mortgage said, “Your services help you (volunteers of YFS) build up your skill in event management and organisation which is an advantage in your ongoing and future career.” He added that the work undertaken by YFS was a win-win situation for both the volunteers and children they helped.

YFS carry out initiatives like sponsoring a child or physically challenged person and raising funds for providing school kits and other basic requirements to poor children. Besides imparting computer education, training in hardware, Maths and spoken English are also given to children. They also lend a helping hand to tribal artisans by marketing and selling their handicraft and handloom materials.

Later, YFS carried out a plastic-free drive in Baglingampally. They educated residents about harm caused to environment by use of plastic bags and handed over a pair of jute-bags to each resident for their daily use.
