Hyderabad, February 25: Even as the uncertainty over separate statehood persists, the IT & ITES sector are multiplying their growth prospects in the state, according to I&T minister Ponnala Lakshmaiah.
“Software exports from the state have grown multifold over the past few years from about few hundred crores to more than `30,000 crore,” he said. IT exports from AP are set to be doubled to about `36,000 crore for the financial year ending 2010-11 from `18,000 crore registered last fiscal. As of December 2010 exports stood at `25,000 crore.
“We are getting several proposals from new companies to start operations in AP,” said K Ratna Prabha, principal secretary, IT&C department.
She said the industry’s direct and indirect employment is also on the rise.
Meanwhile, the Department of IT&C along with the ITsAP is organising a two-day event, ‘Advantage AP’, from March 1. “The idea is to promote AP as the preferred IT destination, promoting tier II cities as IT hubs and SME industry by showcasing their services,” Lakshmaiah said.
