“Your fast drive must not become your last drive”. Be alive to take care of your parents, spouse and children. They need you.
Hyderabad: In a novel attempt to spread awareness on road safety, in the light of increasing road accidents, especially a recent ghostly incident at Biodiversity Flyover, a “fashion show” by IT Employees as part of company’s Annual Day was organised in the city at Madhapur on Friday night.
Gone are the days where Company’s Annual Days used to be routine affairs. Gone are the days when the fashion industry only concentrated on the upcoming fashion trends. Now fashion is used in a way to create awareness on social and civic issues. Hyderabad’s Tetrasoft India organised a fashion show themed “Accidents Hurt, but, not Safety” on road safety.
The ramp became a road. Road safety cones were placed on the ramp. Models wore helmets. In a typical fashion, model walk on the ramp sporting clothes designed by the designer, showcasing the collection. But, this was a different type of a show where two costly KAWASAKI-ZX14R bikes were brought on to the stage and models drove wonder machines to create awareness on the road safety.
18 models, the IT employees of Tetrasoft India participated in the fashion show held at Cyber Conventions on Friday night at Madhapur. These models include: Mridula-Chaitanya; Subrath-Harsha, Trushna-Akhilesh; Neetu-Vivek; Anusha-Rohith; Hema-Kiran; Sampath-Mona; Manisha-Sudeep and Sourabh-Chandini
The costumes for the show have been designed in ways that depict the road safety rules. From clothes to colours, everything connects to the theme. Male models were seen in racer jackets and female models in neon colours.
The IT employees of the Tetrasoft walked amidst roars of appreciation from their own colleagues. All though they were not professional models, they knew what they were doing was a social cause. The entire event was a large success.
Prior to the fashion show, they organised a small quiz on Road Safety with simple questions to set the mood for the show.
Company annual days are routine. Tetrasoft wanted to emphasize we not just as employees of the company but also as citizens of the society. Due to this, we wanted to hold an innovative event to reach the masses, shared Dr. Megan Pinnamaneni, a Medical Doctor Pediatrician, USA, turned Technocrat, who is a newly assumed Chief Strategy Officer of the company.
The Fashion Show with Road Safety as the theme was conceived in light of the recent Biodiversity Flyover accidents. The road accidents are on the rise. Nearly 1.25 million dies in road crashes each year, on average 3,287 deaths a day. 20-50 million are injured or disabled each day placing Road Crashes as the 9th leading cause of death globally.
In India, more than 150,000 people are killed each year in traffic accidents. That’s about 400 fatalities a day and far higher than developed auto markets like the US. That is….One serious road accident occurs every minute and 16 dies on Indian roads every hour said Praveen Kumar Gavuji
Access to quality roads, safe vehicles and driving education are key elements for the safe road journey, they added.
The participants shared some interesting insights into what safety means and how it is beneficial. Correctly used seat-belts reduce the risk of death in a crash by 61%. Helmets reduce fatal and serious head injuries by up to 45%; enforcing a drinking and driving law could reduce alcohol-related crashes by 20%.
There should be zero tolerance for accidents. It is our wish to see that city road become accident-free roads, according to one Tetrasoft employee.
The United Nations warns that vehicle sold in 80% of all countries fail to meet priority safety standards, the model who walked on the ramp lamented.
The fast drive could be Last drive. Stop accidents before they stop you being alive. Drive as if every person on the street were your own, they yelled.
The final message they gave to fellow citizens was: ‘Don’t drive as if you own the road, drive as if you own the vehicle”.
Employees who completed ten years of service were recognised. Winners of sports competition were given awards, 600 company employees graced the event.
