IT corridor under study: Ponnala

Hyderabad, January 19: Minister for Information Technology Ponnala Lakshmaiah has been asked by the Centre to visit New Delhi to discuss the state government’s plans to develop an Information Technology corridor touching Madhapur, Uppal and Pocharam with road, rail and air infrastructure in place.

Talking to media persons at the Secretariat on Tuesday, Mr Lakshmaiah said that the state government has requested the Centre to accord sanction for setting up the IT projects at an estimated investments from IT majors to the tune of Rs 2 lakh crore.

As part of the expansion in the IT sector, the state submitted a report for sanction from Centre to clear pending it projects worth Rs 2,485 crore.

Accordingly, Union Minister for Communications and HRD Kapil Sibal, who is in the city presently, asked the Mr Lakshmaiah to visit New Delhi on January 24 for holding discussions with the Centre in this regard.

Mr Lakshmaiah informed that a comprehensive report has already been submitted to the Centre for considering sanction of 80 per cent funds for providing external infrastructure in 202 square km.

As part of this, proposal to the tune of Rs 87 crore for E-district project, Rs 105 crore for Treasury and Accounts, Rs 19 crore for Employment Exchange under Labour Department, Rs 27 crore for PR, Rs 19 crore for Cooperatives, Rs 79 lakh for Agriculture have been submitted to the Centre for sanction.
