It is Congress’ loss, says Anna Hazare

People of Uttar Pradesh would have stood by the Congress if they had successfully brought in the Jan Lokpal Bill, anti-graft crusader Anna Hazare said on Tuesday. It was the people’s mandate that had spoken clearly, he noted.

“This is not because of us; it is the people’s opinion. If the Congress had been successful in bringing a strong Jan Lokpal Bill, they would have been ahead of everyone else,” Mr. Hazare said.

“If the Congress had managed to put a brake on corruption, then the voters would have stood by the party.”

Mr. Hazare and his team members had campaigned in the State.

The social activist reiterated that the Congress had cheated people: “They [Congress] cheated the people, not us. The Bill that was brought into Parliament was useless.”

Mr. Hazare expressed confidence in Mulayam Singh, the leader of the victorious Samajwadi Party.

“I have complete faith that Mulayam Singh will do good work for the State,” he said.
