Issue of FIR against Virbhadra Singh rocks HP assembly

Shimla, August 06: The corruption case against Union Steel Minister Virbhadra Singh and his wife by the State Vigilance Bureau today rocked Himachal Pradesh Assembly with the opposition Congress staging a noisy walkout from the House to protest the BJP government”s “politics of vendetta”. Immediately after the question hour, Leader of the Opposition Vidya Stokes alleged that registration of the case against Singh and his wife, a former MP, proved that the BJP government was indulging in the ”politics of vendetta”.

However, denying any ”political motive” in registration of the case against his predecessor, Dhumal said, the State Vigilance Bureau which is probing the CD case has lodged the FIR against the former CM, his wife and a former bureaucrat in the course of its investigation and the state government had no role to play in it. “This is a set procedure followed by the vigilance and the state government has no role in it”, he said.

Dhumal also said that the entire matter (including handing over the case to Vigilance and sending the CD to CFSL Chandigarh for a voice test) took place when Congress was in power and Singh the CM. Dissatisfied with Dhumal”s reply and denied permission by the Speaker Tulsi Ram for any further debate on the issue after the CM”s statement, the Congress MLAs led by Stokes walked out of the House raising slogans
