Bangalore: ISRO successfully launched communication satellite GSAT-17 at 2:29 hrs IST on 29 June. The satellite was on board Ariane-5 rocket from Kourou in French Guiana.
The satellite contained 3,477 kg, as a lift-off mass and carries payloads in normal C-band, extended C-band and S-band for the purpose of providing various communication services.
It also has equipment for meteorological data relay and satellite-based search and rescue services being provided by earlier INSAT satellites, ISRO said as per a report by the Quint.
GSAT-17’s co-passenger in the designated flight-VA238 in Arianespace’s launcher family numbering system is Hellas Sat 3-Inmarsat S EAN of Thales Alenia Space.
GSAT-17 is ISRO’s third satellite launch the month of June, the other two being the first developmental flight of GSLV MkIII and PSLV C-38 missions.
