Gaza, April 13: A fierce gunbattle between Israeli troops and Palestinian resistance fighters leaves one member of Islamic Jihad dead and three others wounded in the Gaza Strip.
The incident occurred early Tuesday when a group of Israeli soldiers tried to enter the Bureij refugee camp in central Gaza, Islamic Jihad’s armed wing, the Al-Quds Brigades, said.
An Israeli army spokeswoman confirmed the incident, saying there were no casualties on the Israeli side. But the Palestinians said some Israeli soldiers were also injured in the exchange of gunfire.
The Israeli army sent a helicopter to the area following the incident and deployed armored vehicles on the Israeli side of the border, witnesses said.
Israeli tanks fired into the Palestinian coastal enclave, they added.
