Jerusalem, February, 02: Israeli President Shimon Peres on Monday urged Israeli youth to roll up their sleeves and begin to join politics.
President Peres gave his remarks at the opening of a special Knesset session, marking 61 years since its establishment. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Knesset Speaker Rueven Rivlin, and opposition leader MK Tzipi Livni participated in the session alongside hundreds of students, teachers, soldiers, and members of youth movements.
The President said, “I know that people speak of the fragmentation of the Knesset, that it is weakened by too many parties. But I do not know many other parliaments that has made so many difficult long-term, decisions on matters of life or death.”
The President addressed the youth, saying “I have a lot of appreciation for your generation—you are a strong generation, a more educated generation, a generation that still has the whole future open in front of it. I want to speak with you about one issue—join politics! You cannot sit on the sidelines. Roll back your sleeves and start replacing us.”
He added that every person can have an impact, and urged the youth to serve their people, their heritage, and their country.
