JERUSALEM – A spokeswoman says Israeli President Shimon Peres will be discharged from a hospital a day after fainting on stage.
The 86-year-old Peres fainted briefly after a talk Saturday in Tel Aviv, then revived on his own a few seconds later.
Spokeswoman Ayelet Frisch blamed Peres’ notoriously grueling schedule for the collapse.
Frisch says tests conducted at the hospital indicated no problems. She says Peres would meet later Sunday with U.S. Mideast envoy George Mitchell.
Peres is not known to suffer from any health problems.
Peres was elected to parliament on the Labor Party ticket in 1959 and held a succession of Israel’s most senior posts.
In 1994 he shared the Nobel Peace Prize with Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak Rabin and Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat.
