Tehran, October 21: The human rights issue in the US is a victim of “illegitimate interests” of certain Israeli lobbies, First Vice Speaker of Iran’s Parliament (Majlis) Mohammad Hassan Aboutorabi-Fard said at a conference on the US and human rights at the University of Tehran on Wednesday.
“Today, certain Israeli lobbies in the US continue to take away interests of the American nation for the sake of their own illegitimate interests,” he added.
“Human rights and democracy has been turned into a tool to trample the rights of people …. and there is no doubt that the US and its allies are leading this scheme,” he further explained.
The Iranian lawmaker also pointed out that the US had numerous accounts of human rights violation in Afghanistan and Iraq, adding that the US record of human rights was an absolute disgrace.
Aboutorabi added that Iran’s commitment to human rights was rooted in tenets of Islam and said the Islamic Republic of Iran would stand by other nations in defending their rights.
