Jerusalem, April 11: A ceasefire with Hamas would be ‘contradictory to Israel’s national interest’, Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman said today, strongly advocating moves to topple the Palestinian militant faction.
“Hamas is fighting a war of attrition against us. We won’t come to terms with a situation in which they decide when there’s quiet and when the area heats up,” Lieberman told Israel Radio in an interview, opposing the government’s move towards ceasefire after the escalation during the weekend saw 19 Palestinians dead in Gaza.
The foreign minister said that he is working to implement the coalition agreement, which says that the government will work towards overthrowing Hamas.
“We are going to do what was agreed upon.
