Israel violates Lebanon’s airspace

Beirut, October 19: The Army headquarters media office reported that an Israeli reconnaissance plane had overflown into Lebanon at 13:35 local time on Monday, entering from the southern village of Rumaish.

The aircraft flew over the areas of Iklim al-Kharoub, Baabda, Jouniyeh, and Beirut before leaving at 20:15 over the village of Naqoura.

Another plane carried out a flyover at 22:10 and returned at 23:50, it added.

The overflights contravene United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701, which obliges Israel to keep out of Lebanon’s airspace.

However, Israel carries out airspace violations on an almost daily basis, claiming they serve surveillance purposes.

According to evidence submitted to the UN by the Lebanese government, Israel has breached the provisions of the resolution on more than 7,000 occasions by violating Lebanon’s airspace, territorial waters, and border.
