Following Israel and India’s leaders pledging to deepen their ties, the countries are positively moving in that direction with increasing cooperation in various fields like agriculture and advanced technologies.
Apart from US and Russia, Israel is also emerging as India’s biggest weapons suppliers.
Now Israel owned Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) has got an additional $777 million contract to supply LRSAM air and missile defence systems to Indian Navy, the company stated.
India’s Bharat Electronics Ltd (BEL) is reported to be the main contractor in the project the statement said.
The LRSAM is an air and missile defence system used by the two countries navy as well as air and land forces, MEM reports.
“IAI’s partnership with India dates many years back and has culminated in joint system development and production,” said IAI Chief Executive Officer Nimrod Sheffer.
“India is a major market for IAI and we plan to … reinforce our positioning in India, also in view of increasing competition,” he further added.
Prior to this deal, in April India has cancelled a ban on two Israeli arms companies, Aerospace Industries and the Rafael Advanced Defence Systems Ltd, which it had previously blacklisted since 2006 due to allegations of bribery.
