Israel launches two airstrikes on Gaza

Gaza, February 09: Israeli F-16 warplanes have launched two airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, but there have been no reports of injuries and no comments from the Israeli army.

The attacks targeted a metal workshop in Gaza city and a field in the southern Gaza Strip.

Witnesses said the Israeli warplanes flew over the region, and then a huge explosion was heard in Gaza city, and ambulances and firefighters arrived at the scene, AFP reported.

Israeli drones also hovered over two other towns in the south of the strip. Israel has repeatedly attacked Gaza since the 22-day war of December 2008 to January 2009.

Witnesses said Israeli warplanes struck a metal workshop in Gaza city, adding that the building, which is in a densely populated area, was severely damaged, but no injuries were reported.

Israeli army units often fire rockets at empty areas in the Gaza Strip, saying that Palestinian resistance groups dig tunnels underneath these empty areas.

An Israeli army spokesman had earlier claimed that four homemade projectiles were fired from the Gaza Strip, but no damage or injuries were reported.
