Jerusalem, August 03: Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has vowed to step down if authorities indict him on charges of graft and money laundering.
“If the attorney general decides to submit an indictment, then there is no doubt that at that moment I will resign,” Lieberman said on Monday.
“I am convinced that next year, and in two years too, I will still be foreign affairs minister,” he said.
On Sunday, the police fraud investigation unit recommended the indictment of Lieberman on charges of bribery, money laundering, accepting bribes, harassing a witness and obstruction of justice.
The Israeli minister, however, denies any wrongdoing and described the police investigation as a politically motivated move.
“There was no real reason to open investigations against me, and if the suspicions had any foundation the investigation would not have continued for over a decade,” Lieberman said in a statement on Sunday.
