Israel eying on Andhra, Telangana

Israel is now eying on Andhra Pradesh and Telangana state and it plans to make a way into the twin states in the name of enhancing cooperation with both the states.

Israeli Ambassador to India Daniel Carmon who was on his visit to Hyderabad met Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and discussed possible ways to continue cooperation between Israel and Andhra Pradesh. Israeli ambassador had also sought an appointment with chief minister of Telangana K Chandrasekhar Rao.

The ambassador, who was on a two-day visit to Hyderabad, also called on E.S.L. Narsimhan, the governor of both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. During the meeting he expressed Israel’s keenness to promote collaboration with both the states in the fields of agriculture, water and internal security.

The Israeli envoy invited Naidu to visit his country to attend the Agritech Israel 2015, the 19th international agricultural technology exhibition, scheduled April 28-30.
The ambassador was accompanied by the Deputy Chief of Mission Mr. Yahel Vilan, the Commercial Attaché Mr. Yoni Ben Zaken, MASHAV and Agriculture Cooperation Attaché Mr. Dan Alluf and Deputy Defense Attaché for HLS Defense Cooperation Natan Reuven.

Speaking to selected journalists on December 9, Daniel Carmon maintained that Israel was keen to work with both the governments with Israeli development agenda. He also talked to the high officials of various departments. Israel and Andhra Pradesh government were said to have signed Memoranda of Understanding in some fields including security, water and agriculture.

He revealed that earlier when Chandrababu Naidu was the chief minister, he had launched water scheme with Israeli cooperation in his constituency Kuppam.
He claimed that drip irrigation would increase farmers’ yield and the experiment proved successful in Andhra Pradesh in the past. He informed that Andhra Pradesh officials had consultation with Israeli experts of agriculture and other fields. He hoped that Israel would play a significant role in the growth of Andhra Pradesh. Israeli envoy asserted that Israel was also ready to extend possible cooperation in the growth of Telangana state as well.

According to Israeli ambassador, Gujarat, Haryana, Maharashtra, Punjab and other states are benefiting from Israeli technology. Israel has set up its consulate in Bangalore and Mumbai however there is no proposal to set up Israeli consulate in Hyderabad.

Daniel Carmon got acquainted with the followers of various religions in the two states and their cultures. He asserted that Israel was keen to have excellent relations between the people of two countries. Andhra Pradesh officials briefed him about the subsidy given by the government to Christians going to Jerusalem. He hoped that following the formation of Narendra Modi government at the centre there was possibility of further strengthening of ties between the two countries. He cited Home Minister Rajnath Singh’s recent visit to Israel. He further claimed that Israeli leader Shimon Peres’s meeting with Narendra Modi during his visit to India was successful.

Israeli envoy observed that terrorism was a common concern of both the countries and they have similar ideologies regarding the issue. Since terrorism is a common issue for both the countries they can enhance cooperation to counter terrorism. He stated.
