Israel delays Mugrabi Bridge demolition

Jerusalem, November 28: Israel has decided to delay the demolition of the Mugrabi Bridge in East al-Quds (Jerusalem) over fears of protests against the Tel Aviv regime in Egypt and Jordan.

Israeli officials said on Sunday that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu ordered the municipality of al-Quds to delay the execution of the demolition two days ago, Ha’aretz reported.

The decision to delay the destruction has been made due to fears that it could lead Egyptian protesters in Cairo to also express their anger at Israel.

Netanyahu’s decision to delay the demolition was also prompted by warnings from Jordan that the move could incite anti-Israel demonstrations in the kingdom.

The Islamic Waqf, which is the religious authority that manages the Temple Mount in al-Quds, has held a public campaign against the demolition over the past few days. The religious authority says the destruction of the Mugrabi Bridge is part of an Israeli plan to damage the al-Aqsa Mosque.
