The East Brother Light Station, located in the San Pablo Bay is actually looking for two caretakers for a historic lighthouse, which dates back to 1874. The lighthouse has a bed and breakfast hotel, which according to the visitors serves amazing food.

The lighthouse was established to help sailors navigate the misty waters surrounding San Francisco. The lighthouse is owned by the US Coast Guard and maintained by non-profit group East Brother Lighthouse Inc

The job is for two people, and one of those two must have a U.S. Coast Guard-issued captain’s license and the other job requirements are housekeeping and serving high-quality food. The applicant must also need the right to work in the United States.

The current lighthouse keepers are Jillian Meeker and Che Rogers, who have been living here for two years and are now ready to pass the baton to the new keepers. The new keepers will start working in mid-April 2019, after two weeks of training.

The local mayor of Richmond, California, Tom Butt while speaking to CNN said: “I’ve been working on it for nearly 40 years and initially it was abandoned and we rehabilitated it and then we looked for some way to produce an ongoing revenue to maintain it.”

He further added that “It’s in a unique location, it’s in San Francisco Bay on an island and it’s one of the few, maybe the only, bed and breakfast inns that operates in a lighthouse on an island.”

Funds earned by the inn go towards restoration and maintenance of the historic building.
